What To Expect
Your Hair Restoration Consultation with Dr. Katona
The initial consultation is an important step to starting the hair restoration journey. Dr. Katona will meet patients in office as well as over the phone.
The initial step of the consultation will be reviewing your medical history, current methods you’re using to slow down the rate of hair loss, and what your goals are during and after the procedure. This will also be the step where Dr. Katona will examine your donor hair and scalp.
Afterwards, Dr. Katona will provide more suggestions around slowing down the rate of hair loss and will decide if you are qualified for the procedure. If you are, he will go over what the FUE procedure will look like and what you can expect.
Feel free to come with questions and concerns to the consultation so they can be addressed directly. Keep in mind, everyone’s results are different after the hair restoration surgery. Dr. Katona will show before and after pictures of patients from around the United States so you can get a realistic idea of what to expect.
Preparing for the Hair Restoration Procedure
When it comes to the day of your procedure, there is very little that needs to be done to prepare for it. You will be given a list that Dr. Katona will go through with you prior to your procedure.
Before you come make sure to eat a light breakfast beforehand and have someone drive you to and from the procedure. Though FUE does not require sedation, we still recommend this to our patients as a local anesthetic is used to numb the area to make the procedure as painless as possible.
Dr. Katona will provide further direction on how to prepare for your procedure during the consultation as everyone’s situation is different.
The Hair Restoration Procedure
All procedures are performed in accredited procedure rooms.
The FUE technique is a highly advanced and intricate surgical procedure to restore hair loss. Dr. Katona has performed over 20,000 procedures both in the U.S and UK so you can rest assured that you will regain a full head of thick and natural growing hair.
During the procedure you are totally aware of your surroundings and have the ability to take urgent work calls if needed. Once the procedure is over you will get detailed post-operative instructions. Contact information is provided in case you need any questions answered or concerns resolved. The day after we ask our patients to come in for another examination to make sure the area is healing well before they head home.
There is a possibility that multiple treatments will have to be done. The number of the sessions will depend on the area of scalp treated, the number and size of grafts used, the density which the patient desires, and the individual characteristics of the patient e.g. coarse hair will provide a more dense look than fine hair. The estimate of the number of sessions can be discussed during the consultation with Dr. Katona.
Recovering From a Hair Transplant Procedure
The most common question we get is “how long does it take to recover from hair restoration surgery?” The answer to this question will vary for every person. For the FUE procedure, recovery time is quick because it’s a minimally invasive process, and a local anesthetic is used, unlike traditional surgery.
The length of time it will take to see results will also vary. With FUE new hair will begin around three months after the procedure. Within six months you’ll have significant hair growth and after a year, you’ll have final results.
Dr. Katona will determine the best recovery strategies you should implement after the procedure is complete, but generally it is recommended to sleep with your head elevated for the first week or so. This will help decrease any swelling that may happen after the surgery.
More accurate recovery times will be provided post surgery depending on the examination that will happen the next day.
